Climate Change and Charitable Organizations

By now, most people in the United States agree that climate change is real, and many also agree that it is a man-made product. It’s estimated that the average temperature on Earth is getting higher by 0.6 degrees Celsius every year, and the recent unprecedented heatwaves in countries like the UK are only highlighting the problem.

The main issue remains the dependence on fossil fuels that create the so-called greenhouse gas effect, which acts as a blanket on Earth and warms it, with some of these gases remaining in the atmosphere for a century.

The science has been set since the 1980s, but it took some time for the issue to reach the mainstream. Luckily, it finally did and the new millennium saw many famous figures advocating for meaningful solutions to climate change, which in its turn inspired us, average people, to act as well.

Climate Change: Great Charities and Businesses

Climate activism has come a long way since scientists first alerted us to the impending doom that is global warming, but we should still act and try to educate those who don’t yet believe in its severity or impact.

This is why we will go straight to promoting a couple of fantastic charities where that you can donate to or volunteer, along with a few climate-friendly businesses that go out of their way to make a change.

Clean Air Task Force

The Clean Air Task Force is an organization, that, as the name suggests, is trying to reduce greenhouse gases in our atmosphere and deliver cleaner air and a cooler planet. The organization is doing this through advocacy and creating or promoting technology to achieve its means.

Some of the things they do is promoting nuclear energy in a feat to “decarbonize the world energy system”. They also propose turning to alternative fuels such as hydrogen. The Clean Air Task Force is indeed not only advocating for governments to act to curb climate change, but also proposing meaningful solutions to it.

Wild

Wild is an American organization with global outreach that seeks to preserve nature and combat climate change. They are working tirelessly to protect vulnerable animal species and their natural habitats.

Some of the ways, in which they do that, is by helping local communities preserve their home and nature. For instance, Wild works with the indigenous inhabitants of the Amazon and remind us that the Earth’s lungs have to be protected at all cost if we were to revert the course of climate change.

American Farmland Trust

The American Farmland Trust is a fantastic organization whose mission is to protect farmlands and the hard-working people who care for their upkeep. They work with farmers and provide them with sustainable growing practices to ensure that there’s no food insecurity, or harmful farming policies that could impact nature and the atmosphere.

ConservAmerica

ConservAmerica is another holistic environmental organization, which is doing its best to protect American nature through sensible reforms. This organization slightly differs from other similar ones as it focuses on free market approaches to conservation and seeks to protect nature, while also uplifting private property rights and individual liberty.

Still, it shares similarities with other organizations as it looks for ways to bring about sustainable development, protection of nature, and cleaner energy.

Patagonia

Patagonia continues to head lists of the most environmentally friendly businesses in the world. The outdoor gear company hailing from Ventura, California was created with the idea to protect our planet and its sustainable practices has shown that it’s succeeding.

Some of the ways, in which they do that, is by using sustainable materials and recycling. They have also pledged to donate 1% of their profits to charities that seek to protect the environment and have so far donated about $90 million. Patagonia also pledged to become carbon neutral by 2025.

A Good Company

They named themselves “A Good Company” and apparently, they have a reason to have done so. A Good Company creates various items such as phone cases and stationery and they do so by using 100% sustainable materials. Their phone cases are made out of plants, while their notebooks – out of stone.

In addition to that, they also have sustainable practices and a transparent business model, which allows the customer to see every business decision they make and what it takes to manufacture the products they offer. A Good Company also encourages its fan-base to be sustainable buyers.

Dandelion Energy

Dandelion Energy realizes that to curb climate change one must try to give up fossil fuels first. That’s why they offer a product that allows their customers to do so. The New York-based company provides clients with a way to both cool and warm their homes without the use of fossil fuel-derived energy – geothermal heat pumps underneath your home.

Green Toys

Anybody who has children knows that their house was suddenly filled with tons of plastic coming from toys that would sometimes be only played with once or twice. Green Toys, a Californian company, knows this and they are using recycled materials such as milk cartons to make fun toys that don’t harm the environment.
