WHAT HAS CLIMATE CHANGE GOT TO DO WITH ENERGY SUPPLY ANYWAY?

Posted 27 March 2015

"Nearly all governments currently view climate change and energy supply as closely related policy issues. Yet climate change issues are concerned with environmental hazards, whereas energy policy is concerned with supplying cheap, reliable and secure electricity supplies to industry and the populace. Where is the relationship? Until the 1980s there was no relationship between energy policy and climate change. That one is perceived now only testifies to the effectiveness of relentless lobbying by environmentalists, NGOs and commercial special interests toward the cause of connecting climate and energy policies. Truth, scientific balance and commonsense have been casualties along the way".  Professor Bob Carter, posting at Catallaxy.

CLIMATE SCIENCE DOUBTS: NOT BECAUSE OF PAYMENT, BUT BECAUSE THE SCIENCE IS BAD

Posted 27 March 2015

"Accusing scientists of venal motives when they raise questions about climate has come to be what passes for scientific debate...This follows brazen political-style attacks on scientists because of their views on climate.  In particular there has been an aggressive assault questioning our ethics, morality, competence, and even sanity...This entire assault could not be more anti-scientific. The protagonists are political interlopers in science who do not understand or respect the nature of scientific truths and how they are discovered, let alone how they are justified. One of the greatest lessons from the history of science is that humans don't only get things wrong, but they stubbornly hang on to the stupidest of ideas until the bitter end."  A brilliant defence of the integrity of real science by Dr Christopher Essex, posted to Breitbart.

OCEAN 'ACIDIFICATION' - EXPERT EXPLAINS WHAT IS REALLY HAPPENING

Posted 26 March 2015

"Another such favorite theory, mistakenly offered as a fact , speculates we are now witnessing increasing anthropogenic ocean acidification, despite never determining if current pH trends lie within bounds of natural variability. Claims of acidification are based on an 'accepted scientific paradigm' that 'anthropogenic CO2 is entering the ocean as a passive thermodynamic response to rising atmospheric CO2'. Granted when all else is equal, higher atmospheric CO2 concentrations result in more CO2 entering the oceans and declining pH. But the ever-changing conditions of surface waters exert far more powewrful effects". Jim Steele,  director emeritus Sierra Nevada Field Campus, San Francisco State University and author of "Landscapes & Cycles: An Environmentalist's Journey to Climate Skepticism" posts at WattsUpWithThat.

MISSING THE MARK ON CLIMATE SKEPTICISM - IT'S NOT THE MONEY, IT'S THE SCIENCE

Posted 26 March 2015

"Why do advocates of the dangerous warming hypothesis resort to ad hominem attacks? Is it to protect science?  If so, it is misguided. Progress in science depends heavily on research by skeptics. Or might the attacks be motivated by fear that people read skeptics' research and find it persuasive?...Science is a process. The results of that process do not depend on whether scientists are good or bad, altruistic or selfish. The issue is whether they follow the scientific process....Replication is more difficult than the 'follow the money' narrative behind the attacks on Mr Soon and other skeptical scientists. But for those seeking truth, it is the only analysis worth conducting."  Dr Scott Armstrong, writing in the Washington TImes
